What to do if you find stray kittens?

Estimate the age of the kittens.

0-2 Weeks: Eyes closed or barely open.

2-4 Weeks: Eyes open and alert, becoming mobile.

4-5 Weeks: Very mobile and often talkative, can eat food.

5-8 Weeks: Very active and playful, around 1-2 lbs.

8+ Weeks: Very active and playful, around 2+ lbs.

From 0-5 weeks, STOP! Can you see the mom OR a nest?

If yes, DON’T KIT-NAP!

A kitten’s best chance of survival is with mom. Leave the kittens where they are.

If you would like to help, make sure mom has access to shelter, food and water and contact Animal Friends to report the found kittens.

If no, are you sure?

Mom may be out hunting or may stay away if people are nearby. Watch for her to return over the next few hours.

Pro Tip: Leave a ring of flour around the kittens and check back in a few hours to see if there are paw prints from mom.

If mom came back, don’t kit-nap.

From 5-8+ weeks, contact neighbors to see if the kittens may have an owner.
