Pets Should Stay With Their People
At Animal Friends, we believe that no one should have to give up a beloved pet due to financial hardship.
Our Pet Retention department is dedicated to building strong community partnerships and providing expanded services to address the root causes of resource inequity. By collaborating with pet owners and local organizations, we offer a variety of resources to support families keep pets in their homes and out of shelters.

Help Support Our Pet Retention Program
Each month, our Pet Retention programs provide veterinary care and pet food to hundreds of financially struggling families—but we need your help to continue this lifesaving work! Our programs rely entirely on community donations, and the demand for support far exceeds our current resources. Here’s how you can make a difference:
- Donate Pet Supplies: Drop off unopened bags of food, treats, litter, or other pet supplies at our Resource Center lobby. Small to medium bags are preferred.
- Donate Gently Used Items: Contribute new or gently used pet supplies for our Resale store, with proceeds directly benefiting our programs.
- Order Online: Shop our Amazon or Chewy Wish Lists and have items delivered directly to us.
- Monetary Donations: Donate to the Chow Wagon Pet Food Bank—every dollar provides 4 meals for pets in need!
- Host a Drive: Organize a food and supply drive in your community. For more info or supplies, contact Cecilia Oliveros at 412-536-3885 or COliveros@ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org.
- Volunteer: Join us as a volunteer to directly assist families in need.
Your support ensures that local families and their pets get the care they deserve. Thank you for helping us keep pets and families together!
