Surrender a Pet

Pets are part of our family, and families should stay together.

If you're finding it difficult to care for your cherished pets and feel that surrendering them to a shelter is your only choice, Animal Friends is here to help. We offer a variety of services designed to support you in keeping your family intact during challenging times. At Animal Friends, we believe in exploring every option before you face the tough decision to surrender your pets.

Our Pet Retention services provide pet owners in need with resources to help them care for their pets and prevent unnecessary surrenders due to financial hardship.

H2H Rehoming Program

Before surrendering a pet to Animal Friends, we encourage you to consider our home to home adoption program, H2H Rehoming.

This program was developed to help families who need to make the difficult decision to rehome their beloved pets, but wish to take a more active role in the adoption process.

You will have the ability to screen and meet future adopters to determine if they are the right fit as a new home.

Surrender Applications

Animal Friends cares for thousands of homeless pets each year

Our goal is to admit and place as many animals as possible while maintaining our no-kill policy. We do not euthanize animals to make space, so all admissions must be scheduled in advance.

We request a $25 surrender fee to help cover the cost of food, medical care, and other expenses. For mother cats with litters, we ask for $25 for the mother and $25 for the kittens.

What Happens Next?

After submitting your application, our Admissions team will review it and contact you to schedule an appointment when space is available. Please note that all dogs must complete an initial behavioral assessment prior to being scheduled for admission.

If you have any questions, please contact our Admissions team.

We’ve gotten two of the sweetest cats from this rescue, and they are very good about making sure the animals go to the best fit home.Photo

I've had Tuttie (Tooty) for a week today. She's settling in really nice. I'm starting to see some of her personality and it's adorable. She's a lover girl for sure.

She's smart as she has learned some commands and aims to please. I want to thank animal friends for giving me a chance to give Tuttie a second chance. You guys are amazing. She's bringing a lot of joy to our house and we love her very much. She found her forever home.

We adopted a 2-year old cat 6 months ago. I cannot say enough nice things about Animal Friends.

In addition to clinical history and recommendations, they included a behavioral assessment which proved to be accurate and pages of instructions for acclimatizing the new cat. Our Beanz has been a joy to our lives. Their fee was so low, we sent them a contribution.

I absolutely LOVE this place and what they're doing for these animals as well as those of us who come there to take one of these sweet babies to their forever home. Setting up a meet and greet was a breeze, the facility was beautiful and I will never ever get another pet from anywhere except for here!!Photo

I cannot speak more highly of this animal shelter. The volunteers and staff are amazing and show a true love for their work that they do. The kennels are in great condition and every time I stop by it is very clean. I donate regularly because I am impressed by the work the organization does on a daily basis.

Animal Friends is an amazing place and much needed in this area. The low cost/no cost services they provide such as spay/neuter, rabies shots, initial immunizations, disease testing, flea treatment, etc. are essential for the public and their pets.

The staff is amazing, efficient and always willing to take the extra time to address a client's questions/concerns. The facilities are clean and very well kept up.
I travel an hour and a half each way to bring my pets here and will not take them anywhere else!
