What is the McS Grant?
The McS Charitable Foundation was established by Mary Carol Sheets, a compassionate and humble woman whose life was rooted in her love for animals, people, and God. Known for her generosity, Mary created a foundation that reflects her heartfelt commitment to giving back. The McS Charitable Foundation is built upon four core pillars that were especially meaningful to her: Animals, Veterans, Education, and Christianity.
Animal Friends is deeply grateful to have been selected as a recipient of one of the Foundation’s recent grant awards. Through the generosity of the McS Charitable Foundation, this grant will support two of Mary’s most cherished causes — animals and veterans.
This funding will allow Animal Friends to provide free spay and neuter surgeries for owned dogs and cats within our partner communities of McKees Rocks, Millvale, Mt. Oliver, and Sharpsburg. In addition, the program will be available to veterans regardless of their location.
If you reside in one of these communities or are a veteran, please complete the application below and a member of our clinic team will contact you.
For assistance with scheduling a feral cat, please call our office directly at 412.847.7004.
The McS Story
Founder, Mary Carol Sheets was the only child of Texas oilman H.R. Smith, who owned a cattle ranch in Alice, Texas. She lived in Arizona from her young teen years until her passing in May of 2022. After her passing, she graciously left the ranch to Texas A&M’s Ranch Management Program.
She was a kindhearted, humble woman who loved animals, people, and God. Her great love of animals, especially shelter dogs, fueled her passion for her many beloved rescues. Everyone who entered her home met the many dogs Mary adopted through local shelters. When Mary unexpectedly died at 72 years of age, her last two pups, Lola and Zeke, were adopted by another beneficiary of her generosity, the first of many vet students for whom she funded their medical
education.
Mary loved to travel with her friends, taking them on all her adventures including cruises throughout the world. She was always exceptionally generous. Her Foundation directly reflects her generous heart to love and give. She built her McS Charitable Foundation upon the four pillars that she was passionate about - Animals, Veterans, Education, and Christianity.
A friend to all who crossed her path, Mary’s generous yet humble spirit lives on through her Foundation, founded on those four pillars. Her legacy continues where every effort to honor Mary is carried out under the Foundation's mantra -"What Would Mary Do?
MCS Charitable Foundation is dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals and organizations alike who are committed to making a difference aligned with our four pillars of service. We strive to honor our founder, Mary Carol Sheets, and foster the same heart she had for those who support Animal Services, the Veteran Community, Christian Community, and the furthering of Education.
