Foster a Pet

Dan came to us after his owner passed away. Dan’s owner was a beloved volunteer, and supporter of Animal Friends and had always had a passion for fostering shy/fearful cats. Dan was a foster of hers, who she then adopted, and lived many years with love and comfort. Unfortunately, when she passed, Dan made his way back to the shelter. Dan had several concerning issues on his bloodwork and was made hospice. Luckily, Dan is currently residing in a permanent foster home, where he is thriving. His favorite activities are watching the birds, snuggling up on the couch, and being a shadow to any human or cat in the household. He will remain in his foster home as a permanent foster for life.

Say Hello to sweet Kenny. Kenny is 10 years young and came to us when his owner went to a nursing home. We discovered not long after his arrival that he had a heart murmur, but that was the least of his problems. We realized that he wasn’t eating during his time at the shelter. After some tests, we discovered that he had chronic renal failure. He was put in a hospice foster a few days later. He hid his foster mom’s bed for 2 days until he began to relax and realized her house was a safe place.

He eats 3 cans of Friskies a day and runs around the house with more energy than a kitten. But he also loves to spend plenty of time sitting in his foster’s lap. He receives the best care by receiving a special diet, and fluids given to him every day. He will remain in foster care for the rest of his life, where he can live comfortably.  

Meet Oscar! Oscar is a wonderful 14-year-old Orange Tabby who came to us in September of 2022 when his owner could no longer care for him.  He was very sociable and active when he came to us. His best feature??? He’s a tripod! He only has 3 legs. He is a sweet, affectionate and easy-going boy, who will sit with you so you can pet him and get some kisses in return.

Oscar's favorite things are being petted while sitting on your lap, crispy cat treats, his scratching pad and laying in the sun. Even though he is a senior he still kicks around a cat toy now and then and plays with string toys with the kids. Despite his 3 legs, he always has a pep in his step, and is a happy guy. Oscar was diagnosed with cancer however in October of 2022, and was therefore made a permanent hospice foster. His foster family loves him, and says he is just the best kitty!  

Meow! This is Sassy! And yes, this girl does live up to her name! Especially when it comes to food - she will sass you til you feed her!  Sassy became a hospice kitty after she was diagnosed with IBD/ possible lymphoma and extreme anemia. She also has some hip issues, so she is on medication as well as a prescription diet that is closely monitored. She doesn’t let her hip issues slow her down though! She can chase feathers on a string with the best of them. She can't climb trees, but with some help, the placing of the tree next to the couch…. she can enjoy the view from the top!

She doesn’t like to be picked up due to her tummy and hip issues, but she is a lap cat. Once you sit down, she loves to curl up on her foster mom and purr!  She’s a groomer, she keeps herself clean, and makes sure her foster mom is too! She’s learning puzzles too, she loves finding her treat, even if it’s just her dry food. Because of her various health conditions, Sassy will remain in her foster home for the rest of her life as a “forever foster”.  

This sweet tuxedo boy came to us when a good Samaritan found him as a stray. After searching for his potential owner with no luck, Poe made his way to us so that we could find him his new family. Poe had quite the personality and was extremely affectionate and playful with staff. He was made available for adoption - but we noticed that Poe had some health concerns that needed addressed during his stay with us. 

Poe is FIV+ and FeLV+, and had a dental completed today to remove several teeth. His most recent bloodwork shows that his FeLV is progressive, so for his comfort Poe went into a wonderful foster home, where he will remain for life. He loves his foster paw-rents and has made himself right at home with them! 

This tortie without the tude is Eliza! She came to us as an owner surrender and is now thriving in a loving foster home. She can be cautious at first, but once she feels comfortable, she's a sweet and friendly cat who enjoys gentle pets and quiet company. She especially loves sunbathing and has been showing more and more affection as she's settled in, even enjoying longer petting sessions. Eliza started to display signs of IBD/lymphoma in her foster home, and for her comfort, the determination was made for her to be a hospice kitty. She loves her foster home, and continue to soak up the sunshine and quiet company! 

This adorable gal came to us as a transfer from one of our partner organizations. Before arriving, we knew that sweet Rosie was positive for FeLV. Testing shows that her FeLV is progressive, so for her comfort Rosie went into a wonderful foster home, where she will remain for life. She has settled in well and is the queen of her household. Her mom keeps a very close eye on her health – and she can sometimes be found in an office for her visits for her upper respiratory infection rechecks and bloodwork!  

This loving eight year old Tuxedo boy is equal parts affectionate, playful and VERY passionate about his food. Bok Choy came to Animal Friends as an owner surrender. When he arrived medical staff recognized that he was showing signs of GI lymphoma/BD and quickly took action and started him on chemo therapy.

He settled in quickly in the Admin office area and truly loved everyone and anyone who gave him attention. Almost every single office saved a box/seat for him to rest in. Thus he gained the nickname Box Boy. The boxes didn't stop him from walking or laying on your keyboards. Not only did he charm everyone back there, he truly charmed his now foster mom, Hayley, into taking him home a few months after he had been at Animal Friends.

Since arriving in her home, he has done incredibly well on his medications. So much so that no one believes this guy is sick! He adores Hayley and her partner, Sam. He has a human sized dog bed that he loves to make biscuits and nap in. He loving greets both of them when they arrive home with his happy little chirps. He reminds them when it's breakfast and dinner time -- so don't be late. He won't let you forget it, he will politely tap/slap your face to wake you up for breakfast time.

He is living every cats comfortable dream of finding a loving and caring home.

This loveable lab-mix and old man came to us as a transfer from a partner organization after being at another shelter for quite a bit. Ensign is a quiet, gentle boy who absolutely loves and knows how to live in a home. He's a sweet old man who - although loves to play and will get the zoomies with stuffed toy – and is enjoying his quiet and calm foster home for the rest of his golden years. When Ensign came to us, our medical department had noticed multiple masses on him that had to be removed. One of those masses ended up being cancerous and may cause a shortened life span. But Ensign doesn’t let that stop him from making the most out of life and being a playful and affectionate older pup! 

Boo came to us after his owner was hospitalized and unable to care for him. Boo is an old man and has multiple chronic health problems related to old age. As a result – the most comfortable thing for him was to deem him hospice and let him live out his golden years in a foster home. He is currently residing with one of our hospice fosters and is an affectionate and friendly boy despite his health concerns, and will live out the rest of his life with his foster mom and feline foster brother.
