At Animal Friends, we believe the best place for a pet is with a loving family. Our H2H Rehoming program offers an alternative to surrendering by allowing families to actively participate in rehoming their pets.
This helps keep pets in their homes while awaiting adoption, allowing us to assist more animals even when our kennels are full.
The animals listed below are available for adoption through their current families. If interested, contact the owner using the details in their profile. The owner may request a separate application, vet references, home visits, or other information to ensure a good match.

Ahri is a sweet and lovable 7-year-old Border Collie mix that enjoys being outside and is always ready for an adventure with her human companion, particularly long walks in the woods. She has lived comfortably with two cats for about 6 years. She is largely friendly with other dogs, and particularly enjoys a game of chase or fetch.
Ahri can be territorial when new pets are introduced to her home environment. Ahri has some anxiety that would mean she would best be suited in an environment where her human companion is able to provide focused support. She is very smart, and thrives when she has a routine established.
Ahri has been spayed, and also is microchipped. She is up to date on all vaccines.

Meet Ellie!
Ellie is a spunky, 3.5-year-old Chihuahua mix, weighing 25 pounds. Ellie is spayed and up to date on her vaccines. She is black with white on the tips of her paws and tail, plus a white diamond on her chest. Her ears resemble those of a bat or Baby Yoda! Ellie has been the only pet in her current home, and does not like other dogs. She will do well in a home with adults. Ellie is crate trained and housebroken. She has some seasonal grass allergies that are easily treated with medicine, and takes her pill easily with her breakfast and dinner Spring through Fall. Ellie is a sweet and playful little girl, once she gets to know you. She loves getting a bath and blown dry with the hair dryer! Ellie does well on a leash and is happy to wear a coat or sweater during winter.

Alouette is a two year old, pure bred Spanish Water Dog with American Kennel Club certified papers. She is very loving, and very high energy. We are looking for a family to adopt her who has a big, fenced in yard or farm and will play with her a lot and take her on adventures.
We are sadly putting her up for adoption because we do not have a fence, and she is very good at escaping the house and she won’t come back when we call her when she is loose. We are afraid she may get hit by a car.
She needs to be groomed. Spanish Water Dogs are typically groomed twice a year, down to 1 inch (they are sheared when the farmers shear the sheep.) These dogs can’t be washed and dried like a regular dog. This mats their fur. When you shampoo, you do not rub in the soap, just apply and run your fingers through and rinse. Also do not towel dry, squeeze their fur and let them air dry. She gets scared with the clippers. We put on her gentle leader while using the electric clipper.
It is helpful to get a book on Spanish water dogs and join a Facebook group for pointers if you are unfamiliar with the breed. This is such an interesting breed. They do everything, they are very intelligent, and they are beautiful dogs.

Meet Mika! Mika is 35 lbs and 16 months old. She is all black, except for a white spot on her chest and back paw. She’s a lab mix, very sweet, affectionate, and a little timid at first. She’s not a big eater, and trains well if you take the time to do it. She’s very quick, loves to chase and be chased by kids and other dogs alike, and loves a tough chew toy. Mika has a bonded friend Cups!
Meet Cups is a 65 lb, 16-month-old lab mix. He is brown and black. He’s happy, friendly, and loves to run and play. He’s very good with kids and adults alike and is learning how to be gentle with cats. He loves head and belly scratches, and a strong chew toy.
While we would love for these two to stay together, we would be open to splitting them up if the right fit comes along!

Meet Sokka!
Sokka is a spirited and affectionate 65-pound mixed breed. He's about 1.5 years old so he is still in the prime of his youthful energy, always ready for an adventure. Sokka’s enthusiasm for life is contagious and his boundless energy make him an excellent companion for active individuals or families.
Sokka has a warm and social temperament; he loves people (including kids) and gets along wonderfully with other dogs of all shapes and sizes. His favorite activities include long sniff walks, engaging in training sessions, and mental enrichment games like working through lick mats and Kongs.
Though he naps contentedly during the day, he thrives on attention, interaction, and space to roam and play. Sokka’s ideal home would be one where his energetic spirit can be matched—perhaps with a yard to explore and another dog to keep him company.
His heart is full of love, and he is happiest when surrounded by activity, care, and cuddles.

Meet Tikaani!
Tikaani is a 6-year-old neutered male who is up to date on his vaccinations. Tikaani weighs 105 pounds. He loves attention and being petted. He welcomes and greets new people. He is low-energy and house-trained but loves to be outside. He walks on a leash but will pull to chase small animals of which is common with this breed. He is pretty good with commands to 'speak', 'sit' and 'paw/shake.' I am his second owner and rescued him from a family who couldn't keep him. He is best suited for adults and older kids who aren't jumping on him. He would thrive with a large fenced-in yard or farm type of home and a larger adult family that is home often as he doesn't like being alone. This breed usually isn't great with other dogs as it can be hit or miss. He did live with two other small dogs and two toddlers which was just too much overload for him all at once with 4 other adults too - thus me adopting him. As great as this breed can be they can also be stubborn and are best suited for experienced dog owners who have patience.

I LOVE stuffed animals and going for walks.
I have a lot of energy but once I get it out I’m a very well-behaved girl.
I’m super big on love, but sitting still for cuddles for a long time isn’t my favorite, there’s just too much to do all the time! I’m sure I could get used to it though if I’m very tired.

Meet Chase!
The first 3 years of his life wasn't the easiest, but 9 months ago we brought him into our home and worked on building trust and love with him.
He is a big sweety that LOVES humans, but not the biggest fan of high energy animals or kiddos (why we are looking for a new home).
He has some separation anxiety issues and is still learning to trust us humans to touch his feet.
Otherwise, he is house broken, crate-trained, and fairly easy to teach skills.
He will blossom in a home that can give him regular long walks with no little kids or other pets (he does do well with our other pup who is super chill).

Winnie is an older dog (adopted in 2017) with all the fun and energy that comes with a puppy. She is 40 lbs, up to date on her shots, spayed, and incredibly fit. Winnie is always ready for an adventure, and she is loyal and playful with the people and pets that she is familiar with. Winnie bonds strongly with a select group of people and currently lives with a toddler, so she can do well with familiar kids and babies. She loves other dogs but has never lived with a cat.
Winnie is very shy and can have high anxiety in new situations, and will likely never warm up to strangers, but she is fiercely loyal to her “pack.” Winnie’s ideal home would be on the calmer side, with a family or person with high-energy hobbies (like running, camping, and hiking) who has time to devote to some additional training. She is also the best guard dog you could ask for; I always feel safer with her around.

Hi, I’m Archie! I’m a four-year-old guy with SO much love to give. I’m about 73 lbs and have such a unique and handsome face if I do say so myself. My family loves me to pieces, but because they love me so much, they only want what’s best for me.
Unfortunately, that means finding me a new home. While I love my parents so, so much, I’m not thriving in a multi-dog household. I deserve a home where I can be the center of my family’s attention without any furry brothers or sisters.
My favorite activities include: leisurely sniffy walks at the park (mom says I have great leash manners!), hikes, posing for pictures (my mom says I’m extremely photogenic), and all the snuggles with my people. I especially love snuggles first thing in the morning. I’m a pretty lazy and low energy guy, so anything that involves hanging and lounging around with my people sounds like a great time to me! My parents tell me that I’m such a good boy because I am 100% housebroken and have never had an accident in the house in the 3 years that they’ve had me.
I have great house manners and I’m not destructive in the house at all. I’m also really great with car-rides and for grooming. Mom and I have worked on training for years, so I know so many tricks and cues and have overall very good manners! I even dabbled in a few dog sports, but I’m a little too low energy for all that.
One thing my new home should be aware of is that I need to be the only pet in the home. I have “resource guarding” with other dogs, but not with people. I’ve not spent time around cats, but I really need to be the only pet. I’ve spent a little bit of time around kids, but because of my resource guarding, I should only be in a home with kids 10+. My new family should be aware of what resource guarding is and familiar with how to manage this. I’m a really special guy who wants to be the light of your life and the center of your world. Neko is a large mixed-breed dog who is looking for a new forever home. Neko lived with his original family from his puppy years until October 2024. The mom of the family had to move and could not take Neko with her. Neko stayed with other family members who would have loved to keep Neko, but lived somewhere where Neko had to live outside.
His family reached out via Facebook to see if they could find Neko a new forever home. I responded to their post, but unfortunately, my dog's guarding issues are more serious than I realized. In the end, I took Neko in with a plan to find a forever home for him. Neko is on the wait list for Animal Friends, but I am worried that Neko may have a harder time if he were to have to go to into a shelter. When he came to my home, he had a brief period of separation anxiety.
Learning about this program with Animal Friends, I think this will be the best option for Neko-going from one loving home to another. Neko is such a wonderful soul. He wants nothing more than to be with his human(s) and is up for anything. He will love walks/runs outside and will love curling up next to you to watch a good movie or at bedtime. He loves affection, giving and receiving gives lots of kisses. He soaks up praise- his tail wags and wags. He wants to be an obedient dog and tries to understand what is expected of him. He knows how to sit and lie down but needs work on stay commands and walking on a leash. He can get a little too excited during play and is mastering 'easy'. He is also mastering 'drop it '- pillows or anything fluffy are his favorites. He is motivated by cookies of any kind, but his favorite seems to be American cheese.
I would love to make Neko a permanent part of my home and I would if not for the issues of the dog currently in my home. Right now, I am managing the household using crates. Outside of the home, Neko and my dog get along and can be walked together. Neko has a high prey drive and should not interact with other small animals, and he can't go home with small animals.
Neko needs more exercise than he gets with me. He is a young, energetic dog. Neko will probably do best in a home with adults and older children. He is strong and large and could easily knock over younger children. If you are looking for a canine BFF, Neko is an excellent choice. Neko will make you laugh with his antics and playful nature and just love him with his gentle nature and soulful eyes.

Winston is a wonderful cat and would be best suited in a home with no other pets because he wants all of the love for himself. He loves people and is okay with other cats as long as they are not in his personal space! If you want a cat but worry about tripping over them, Winston is perfect. He is not necessarily a lap cat but will hop up on the couch briefly to get a few pets.
He knows his name and will come to you when called. He loves full body pets, chin scratching and belly rubs. Winston is FIV positive which means his immune systems is weakened but he is able to live a full and healthy life just like any other cat. He is a gray and white tabby with the most beautiful face and is very stoic overall.

Peanut is a very sweet little girl who was pulled from the street in pretty bad shape. She was nearly starved and very weak. Peanut is a survivor. She more than doubled her weight in 3 weeks and is very healthy. She loves to give rather forceful headbutts to let you know how much she loves you. She will also snuggle right up against you and sleep all night in that spot. Peanut is around 11 years old, just had a teeth cleaning and had several teeth pulled; therefore, she only wants her wet food but loves it. Please contact care taker for an adoption application.

Meet Pipsqueak! Pipsqueak is a very lovable but shy cat. At adoption, in March 2024, he was around 21 pounds and around 2 years of age. He is mostly grey with white features. Pipsqueak is very shy and timid around adult males we've discovered. Through gentle introductions, Pip was socialized with three other cats in the household but prefers to live a solitude life. Because of this, I think he will thrive more so in a one-cat-only household. Pip is not aggressive and has no food issues. He really is the sweetest cat!! He is currently residing in one space and will quickly retreat back to it if we try to bring him out. So a smaller house or apartment may be beneficial to help him build confidence. Pipsqueak will vocally tell you when his kibble is running low and he enjoys catnip quite a bit. However, at his size, he is not food-motivated or aggressive in any way about food. We have not been very successful in getting him to play. He enjoys his big soft bed and cardboard scratcher boxes quite a bit. We are seeking someone who is very patient and has a calm demeanor as we feel this is what will truly help Pip live his best life. A quiet, smaller residence will also be ideal. Not much information was given about his previous family, however, we have learned that a quieter and solo cat residence may be what he needs most.

Meet Lucy! Lucy is a very good, loving, 2-year-old spayed female who is extremely affectionate and just wants to cuddle up next to you or lay in your lap. Also enjoys playing with her toys and interacting with you. When Lucy was rescued, her X-rays showed bullet fragments in her jaw. She has been vetted and has fully healed but also had several teeth removed. She does get messy when she eats or drinks. She will drool. Immediately after she eats, we use a soft wet cloth to wipe around the outside of her mouth. She is very compliant and used to it.
The ideal home for Lucy would be with someone very patient, kind, loving and willing to dedicate extra time caring for her. She gets along with other cats (we have 6 others in the house) but would suggest no other pets so you can control her eating area. Not sure how she would do around dogs. She likes to drink a lot of water and will slobber in it and makes it messy, so it does have to be changed frequently. She’s able to groom herself without any problems but occasionally does get a little messy and matted especially on her chest, so we will take her to the groomer as needed.

Meet Sassy!
Sassy lives up to her name. She is a sassy little 14 month old girl (as of mid-June 2024) who loves her hoomans but is not so fond of other cats. Sassy gets along fine with her brother Skooter and they can go home as a pair. Otherwise, Sassy will need to be the only cat in the home. Sassy is the best lap cat and will snuggle with you as long as you let her. Sassy is as sweet as could be and will not disappoint! She loves her treats and is as healthy as could be.

Meet Skooter!
Skooter is the quirkiest of cats on the planet. He sleeps in the most awkward positions, is extremely vocal, and has a lot of kitten energy. He is 14 months months old (as of the middle of June 2024) and is as healthy as could be. He will follow you everywhere you go and meow up a storm. He loves laps, cuddles, and gets along with other cats. He would love to be adopted with his sister, Sassy, but can also be adopted alone.

Meet Hank and William!
Hank and William were found abandoned by their mother on 3/10/24, the day they were born. They came to me that night and were bottle fed and raised in our home.
They are both special needs for their compromised immune system since they never received milk from their mama. I have been feeding them a raw food diet (Oma’s Pride mostly) since weaned to try to keep them healthier.
At 5 days of age, William had high fever and probably as a result of the unknown infection, developed severe uveitis and cataracts in both eyes. He was diagnosed at 2 weeks at PVSEC (Blue Pearl) ophthalmologist Dr Bagley. His inflammation has gone down but it is still there, and he needs eye drops and regular check-ups with Dr Bagley about every 6-8 weeks at this time.
William is completely blind, but that does not stop him from playing. He loves anything he can bat around and chase. He is as inquisitive and active as his brother and the two kittens wrestle and chase like any other. William maps and learns his surroundings, so it is important to leave things in the same place, as you would with any blind person or pet. He is a brave explorer and will climb anything his brother has climbed (following Hank’s scent).
Hank is your rambunctious gray tabby. Fast, bold, playful. Zooms through the house so you only see a streak lol – yet he loves to cuddle, and he melts into your arms purring very loudly when you hold him.
They will be adopted together and cannot be separated. They will be ready to go to their new home after July 20th.
Adoption fees apply, home check and vet references are necessary and adoption contract must be signed.
This adoption does not go through Animal Friends and the kittens are not located at Animal Friends.

Mama Faye & her girls—Sophie & Stella
We met Faye when we got a call from a local VFW worker who informed us “this friendly cat had become a frequent customer”—harmlessly dropping in looking for food and pets. Unfortunately, the neighbor to this local establishment did not like cats, did not like her passing through his yard and declared he wanted to do something unmentionable to her. This man couldn’t be reasoned with, and the safest solution was for Faye to be pulled from her current outdoor living situation. This turned out to be a blessing on many levels because after a quick x-ray, we learned she was very pregnant. A few weeks later Faye gave birth and we were happy to not only save her life, but the lives of her little ones.
Mamma Faye is sweet, loves attention, sleeps on her foster dad’s shoulder and is an amazing mum to the kittens. She carries toys around in her mouth and cries as she brings you little gifts. She loves to be wherever you are—even if it’s on the handlebars while you ride the stationary bike. She’s around 2 years old and is part Abyssinian—a breed of cat with a distinctive “ticked” tabby coat, in which individual hairs are banded with different colors.
Sofie is around 4 months old and is the perfect mix of athlete and snuggle bug. She’s very happy showing off her aerial skills as she soars through the air chasing after toys connected to wands. But then she loves to settle in with her sister Stella on a comfy lap to be held and loved. She has the coolest tattoo sleeved arm that she proudly displays when she sprawls out. And she would be very happy in a home with another resident cat or her mom or sister for feline companionship.
Stella, also around 4 months old, is the ultimate lap cat and cuddler. She’s the first to snuggle in that cozy place on your lap or chest and settle in for a while. But after she’s done, she’s a ball of energy—always very curious to see what’s going on in the house and loves to interact with the other resident kitties. Stella has an ever so slightly hazy left eye and has been seen by an ophthalmologist at PVSEC. Despite the slight haze, she has a healthy eye and does not require any daily medication.
Everyone is spayed, vaccinated, micro chipped, combo tested and has been treated for fleas and parasites.

Miami Kittens — Dixie, Daphne & Duke
Ever dream of moving to Florida, but the hurricanes are holding you back? Or it’s too hot and humid in the summer? Or it’s just too far away from family? Well, now you can have a little bit of FL right here in Pittsburgh, PA.
Meet Dixie, Daphne and Duke. These three, 5-month-old siblings, were previously part of the estimated over 500,000 stray and homeless cats living in Miami Dade County—the most populous county in Florida. We’ve been traveling to Miami to take care of a sick family member and figured we’d put ourselves to use while we were there and do some TNVR (trap/neuter/vaccinate/release). Well, little did we know we’d meet what we call a “personality plus” kitten family. They were so perfect that we just could not put them back outside and unfortunately the hurricanes made all the shelters impossible to get into. So, to Pittsburgh, they came. Dixie, Daphne and Duke are all just the sweetest and happiest little kittens. Go figure—they grew up in sunny Miami.
Dixie is the daredevil, the ringleader, and the most dominant personality of the group. She is very vocal and loves her wet food more than anything. She likes to play with mice and rope and with water in the sink. Dixie enjoys the other resident cats and is the most purring kitten we’ve every fostered. She also has unique black spots on both her back and belly.
Daphne is a little more soft-spoken than her sister but is still very outgoing. She is the first to come up and rub on your legs in a figure-eight pattern with a “look at me” gaze. She likes things that roll best and when she’s not playing you can often find her snuggled up with her brother Duke. Like Dixie, Daphne is also a purr machine. I think these kittens start purring as soon as they make eye contact with you.
Duke is the perfect mix of both of his sisters. He not only looks like Dixie, but he goes bananas when it’s time for his wet food and plays really hard like she does. But he’s also a lot like Daphne in that he is a little more soft-spoken at times. But how is he similar to both of them? You guessed it—the purring. And these kittens purr loud. It’s remarkable

Meet Carly!
Carly is a 4-year-old spayed female who is up to date on her vaccines. Carly has come so far. She was living in a home with 20 other cats and 5 dogs in an environment that was not conducive for any animal. She was taken into our rescue, is so grateful, and shows her love and appreciation. Her foster says that she is one of the most affectionate cats she has ever had and will climb in bed with her for some good snuggles.

Meet Steve!

Meet Katie. Katie is a unique, dilute calico with beautiful green eyes and is a sweet, shy, quiet, and cuddly girl who loves pets and being near you but is just as content alone. She is also spayed, up to date on all vaccines and has tested negative for FeLV.
It will take time for Katie to trust you and come out of her shell. However, once she does, she will be rubbing up against you and curling her tail around you, all while soaking up the pets and purring away. She likes to play and loves whack-a-mole type of games. Also, once she does open up, you’ll get to hear the smallest, cutest meow of all time AND she’ll want to sleep in bed next to (and often on) you!
Katie was rescued from a lifetime outside in August 2024 and while I don’t know her exact story, I expect she was someone’s outdoor cat that was allowed inside occasionally, and they moved away. We moved into our house in August of 2020. We would see her on occasion throughout the next 4 years, but she never came to our house. In May 2024, she started coming around every day, and it didn’t take long for her to come up to me and ask for pets. She was hanging around all the time and was even sleeping on our porch – where we have cat shelters for the feral cats. Then she started coming into our house! No one was looking for her, and she was not microchipped, so we decided to bring her inside, get her vaccinated, and find her a home. While we would think about keeping her, and she does get along with 2 out of 3 of our cats, she is terrified of one our more dominant cats and would not have the best life in a household because of that.
Katie doesn't like much noise or too much going on but after all that time outside, it's no surprise she is a little shy and reserved and wants to live a safe, comfy life now. She would do best in an adult-only, quiet home with an experienced cat owner and only one or two people in the home. Katie can go to a home with non-dominant cats or she can be your one and only! Whatever her past, she is a loving, playful, independent, shy and sweet girl.

Little Piper was found as an almost 8-year-old girl abandoned by her previous owner. She could not be sweeter. She is so gentle, affectionate, and just an easy-going laid-back cat. Layla is about 3 years old, playful, and affectionate. She can sometimes play a little rough, but she also enjoys short petting sessions and cherishes her independence. Meet Kitty! Kitty is a cool cat she likes to set her own pace but also likes to play, sleep in bed, and loves to fall asleep on your lap. So not overly affectionate but a balance between flying solo and visiting for pets. She will also be the cat that walks on your laptop keyboard or stands on your homework trying to get on your lap. Meet Teddy! He is my mother's "fierce little warrior" and is looking for a new home. He is a 7-year-old neutered male and has lived with her the majority of his life as an indoor farmhouse cat with outdoor privileges. Though Teddy sees himself as a temperamental bad boy kitty cat, he is scared of thunderstorms and would like indoor shelter privileges when it's raining or snowing outside. Given he is a moody mouser boy, he would most likely flourish as a working cat, barn cat, or porch cat with indoor shelter privileges where he can get love on his terms and shelter as needed during stormy weather. His vaccines and medical care is up to date. He has asthma that has been managed well with one treatment. Otherwise, Teddy is healthy. Upon adoption, his vet records and vaccine records go with him to his new home!
